[News] SECRET & SuJu’s Heechul responds to accusations of ’self-plagiarism’

12 Mar

On March 9th, SECRET’s Sunhwa and Song Ji Eun guested on MBC’s “Radio Star” and addressed accusations claiming that “Madonna” was a carbon copy of “Magic“.

The girls performed “Magic” and “Madonna” in a hit track battle against SISTAR. Afterwards, they were asked by the MCs,“Aren’t they both the same song? Even the choreography is the same. What exactly is different about them?”

Sunhwa explained, “Both songs are the works of the same composer. The choreography is also the same.” When asked by MC Kim Gura about whether she was embarrassed at all by the similarities, Sunhwa replied, “Not at all. We thought of it as our own unique color, so we were very proud.”

The talk of ’self plagiarism’ then shifted attention over to MC Super Junior’s Kim Heechul. The idol MC was asked about the similarities between “Sorry Sorry” and “Bonamana,” to which he confessed, “Both tracks were composed by Yoo Young Jin. ’Sorry Sorry’ was #1 on the Taiwanese charts for 38 weeks in a row, so ‘Bonamana’ was like an extension of ‘Sorry Sorry.’”

Since MC Yoon Jong Shin is also a composer, he was asked to share his thoughts on the issue. “It’s their own song so it shouldn’t be a problem. I do think that they consciously composed it like that since the previous track had done so well.”

[News] Super Junior-M Henry “I thought Super Junior were gay”

5 Mar

Super Junior-M’s Henry reveals his shocking revelation of his first impression of Super Junior.

On the 1st of March, during SBS “Strong Heart”, Henry mentioned his first impression of the Super Junior members, saying, “In Korea, it is okay to walk closely and have a lot of skin ship, but overseas, this can be easily misunderstood as being gay.”

Henry also said, “When I first met the members, they gave me a slap on the butt as a greeting, frankly, that was pretty gay.” “Leeteuk was the only who did the most butt-slapping.”

After the topic on being gay, Henry moved on to talk about transgender.

About “pretty idol” Kim Heechul, Henry said he was “really like a girl, with long hair, and really pretty. I thought he was a transgender,” eliciting laughter from everyone.

Eunhyuk also got a taste of culture shock from Henry.

He said, “at first, Henry called our SM founder, Lee Soo Man, ‘Mr Lee’ ” Henry replied, “I didn’t know who was that in the beginning, so I thought he was just the SM boss, so I said, ‘Hey, Mr Lee’ as a greeting. Then he handed me his name card, saying that I can contact him,” causing another round of laughter among the audiences.

Eunhyuk added, “even now, when Henry see Lee Soo Man Sunbaemin, he still uses his English greeting of ‘Mr Lee’ and Lee Soo Man will say, ‘We are all friends’ and he wouldn’t be mad”

[News] Super Junior enchants Filipino fans anew with Super Show 3

5 Mar

MANILA, Philippines – Korean boy band Super Junior lived up to its promise and hype as its members delivered another successful concert for Filipino fans last Feb. 26 at the jampacked Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Super Junior’s “Super Show 3: The 3rd Asia Tour” Manila leg was nothing short of spectacular, from the massive stage and giant screens to the wonderful numbers performed by the boy band fangirls and fanboys screamed and cheered, waved their banners, and sang with Super Junior, holding aloft their light sticks that turned the coliseum into a sea of sapphire blue.

The Super Junior members who performed at the Araneta Coliseum were Leeteuk, Heechul, Sungmin, Siwon, Donghae, Yesung, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun, Shindong, Ryeowook, and Henry Lau (member of sub-unit Super Junior-M). Special guest was SM Entertainment’s artist, TRAX. The concert opened with Donghae being lifted up from the stage by cables.

The boy band sang their hits including “Sorry Sorry,” “Bonamana,” “Twins,” “U,” “A Man in Love,” “No Other,” “Hate You Love You” and “In My Dream.”

As both the band and the fans reeled happily from the concert, Super Junior-M member Henry Lau gave a shout-out to the Filipino fans who watched the show.

“Had a blast in the Philippines! You were all AWESOME! Thank you so much! Hope to be back soon!” he tweeted after the concert.

Heechul also tweeted to thank the Philippines.

“Manila! Feel so good! I really love u! My body didn’t feel good but Philippines’ cheers made me feel better,” he posted on Twitter.

Bulletin Entertainment asked Filipino fans to share their Super Show 3 experience and they were one in saying that the concert was awesome, unforgettable and exciting.

Edna Marie Vilchez and 10 of her friends flew all the way from Bacolod just to watch the Super Junior concert. She said she was lucky that she saw Super Junior in person.

“It was totally indescribable for me. I was shouting most of the time at the concert, as in, from start to end. They were so perfect! We waited for almost 10 hours outside Araneta but it was so worth it!” she said.

Narl Marquez of Super Junior United Philippines said, “It was kind of exciting. We watched the Bangkok SS3 Leg, and we wanted more. It was also stressful since there were a lot of things needed to be prepared but it’s all worth it. Actually, nakakabitin pa rin hanggang ngayon.”

Super Junior made sure that fans were not only able to watch them sing but get up close and personal as well. Members interacted with fans, and leader Leeteuk gave a shirt to a lucky female fan.

Fanboy Angelo de Villa, 22, from Taguig said seeing Super Junior for the first time was awesome. “It was a memorable experience to see them enjoy performing onstage while we also enjoyed their performance.”

For Dannca Francisco, 13, from San Pedro, Laguna, it was her first time to watch a Super Junior concert. “I felt very excited and nervous at the same time before the concert. But in the end I felt very happy,” she said, adding that it felt great seeing Super Junior in person.

Another fan, 18-year-old Judith Sabojocan of Muntinlupa City, said she loved every minute of the concert.

“Seeing Super Junior again, especially more closer now, was like what Sungmin and Leeteuk did! I felt like I was the one flying on air! I loved every minute of the show but the tribute for Kangin was amazing! Yesung and Ryeowook made my Saturday night like Valentine’s Day! I love ’em all!” she told Bulletin Entertainment.

There were funny moments, too, notably Heechul impersonating Lady Gaga together with Donghae, Eunhyuk and Shindong, who all came out dressed as ladies. Siwon also did fans a service by performing a number shirtless, showing his well-sculpted body to the delight of the audience.

Fans also noted the highlights and memorable scenes at the concert.

For Marquez, whose favorites are Kangin and Kyuhyun, “My favorite would be the part where Heechul went to our side and got the Kangin mask from me. He used it during his solo and gave it back to me. I was really touched. I actually cried,” she said. Super Junior member Kangin is currently serving in the military and was unable to join the Manila concert.

For De Villa, who is a fan of Siwon and Donghae, said, “I love how they seem to play onstage on certain songs. Siwon, Donghae and the others are like playful children goofing around while performing and it was a fun thing to watch because they are what they are, on and off stage.”

Eunhyuk fan Vilchez said that for her, the memorable concert moments were when Eunhyuk performed “Down” and when Henry Lau sang “Baby.”

“It was so great hearing all the fans sing with them, especially since the song was in English. The Lady Gaga and Beyonce numbers by Heechul (as Lady Hee Hee) and Donghae, Eunhyuk and Shindong were fabulous,” she said.

Francisco, who is a huge fan of Donghae, said her favorite moment was the “Rinaldo” song. “It was when all ELFs cried because we miss Kangin and also when Henry said Philippines is the loudest [crowd],” she said.

The Super Show 3 is already over but fans are still talking about the great concert experience. A day after the concert, Super Show 3 in Manila was still a trending topic on Twitter. In fact, fans are already talking about Super Junior’s Super Show 4 next year.

Super Junior had a great impression of the Philippines based on the cheers and support of the thousands of fans who filled Araneta Coliseum.

For the fans, Super Junior will always be No. 1 in their hearts.

Why Super Junior’s ‘Friends’ Are Forever?

20 Feb

K-Pop superband Super Junior’s single ‘U’ was downloaded 1.7 million times in the first five hours of its digital release. Pinoy fans reveal how much they love the band

SUPER JUNIOR, or simply SuJu, is no junior performer in the music scene. This superstar Korean boy band is considered one of the hottest in the world. They are not only famous in Korea, but in China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, too.

SuJu’s single “U” was downloaded 1.7 million times in the first five hours of its digital release, making its server crash! Their music is consistently at the top of music charts.

Its members include LeeTeuk, HeeChul, HanKyung, YeSung, KangIn, ShinDong, SungMin, EunHyuk, DongHae, SiWon, RyeoWook, KiBum and Kyuhyun. Three members, namely KiBum, HanKyung, and KangIn, are inactive for various reasons.

Let’s see what their young fans have to say about this great group.

Unique genre

“I like their music because of the variety of genres they cover,” says Nina Francisco, an AB Communications senior from Ateneo de Manila University.

Super Junior’s ability to perform a wide spectrum of genres enables them to cater to a wide audience. An article about them said that they blend rock, rap, and R&B. They also use a bit of classical music. Chichi Laconico, a freelance writer, says that SuJu’s music is very layered and rich.

Other artists cannot pull off such a difficult task, but Chichi says SuJu’s music is “quality music.”

A band with four members playing is doable; six members is a feat. Having 13 members must be a disaster! But Super Junior is able to pull it off.

“It’s amazing how 13 people can participate in a three-to-four-minute song and still show unity throughout the song,” says Danica Ballais, an AB Communications freshman from Ateneo.

“Every member has a special voice that makes the music good. Thirteen talented singers combined as one—oooh, it’s like heaven,” says Donna Myr Arceo, 19, a BS Tourism junior at Centro Escolar University (CEU).

When I read the history of SuJu, I discovered why they are so great. Several of their members had to win in auditions over large numbers of aspirants. One of them had to beat 3,000 other applicants!

Many of the group’s members were also great performers before the group was formed, as dancers, singers, and even actors, while other members had radio shows, TV shows, and other programs.

“They are more than just singers. They are all-around performers, whose appeal cuts across classes, which explains their popularity around the world,” notes Danica.

Elaine Paola Silan, 19, and a senior BS Communications Technology Management major from Ateneo, says, “Why would you ask a Super Junior fan if they are good? Of course they are good! Where else could you find 13 multi-talented and good-looking boys in one group, whose passion burns for what they do?”

‘Kilig’ factor

There’s also a kilig factor in the songs of SuJu, making them really appealing to young girls.

Catherine Almendares, 16, a junior high schooler at the Bulacan Ecumenical School, says, “It gives me different feelings, warm feelings. It’s like they are performing for you and you can see they put their hearts into it.”

“I like their music because I can feel the emotions, the soul, and the message that they want to get across through their charismatic voices and attitudes,” says Keyl Espina, 18, a BS Nursing senior at Manila Doctors College.

The strong charisma of the members really makes the fans love their music. Maria Rona L. Fajardo, 16, a BS Accountancy freshman at the Guagua National College, says, “They always make me smile whenever I’m in bad mood. I just watch some of their videos, and it drives the bad mood away.”

“You can feel the sincerity in their songs, you can feel the love, and for me, that’s what makes them unique and special,” says Beatriz Almendares, 19, a BS Tourism junior from CEU Malolos.

“Super Junior is one group that has been through a lot of hardships,” says Elaine. “Who they are now is a result of their endless passion and effort to achieve their dreams. We Ever Lasting Friends or ELF (SuJu fans) don’t attend a Super Junior concert just to see them. We attend because we want to show the boys their hard work paid off, by making them feel and experience how much they are loved.”

The Super Junior “Super Show 3” Manila—the 3rd Asia Tour of Super Junior happens at the Araneta Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. The show is produced by PULP Live Productions, presented by SMART and brought to you by BPI, Hyundai, Sanuk and Samsung. Universal Records is the Philippine home of SuJu, while MYX is the official music channel.
